Scored for modern band by David Whitwell

Reicha was born to a civic bandsman in Prague who died when the composer was an infant. He was reared by his uncle, the talented composer Josef Reicha. Anton Reicha was a gifted composer and friend of Beethoven and among his students at the Paris Conservatory were Liszt, Chopin, Berlioz, Gounod and Cesar Franck.

The Commemoration Symphony for band was composed in 1815 as part of the ceremonies associated with the reburial of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. In order to make the work accessible for outdoor use, Reicha gave alternative instructions for enlarging the work for three bands.
